Dear interested,
Chwaka is a fishing village that lives in great poverty. Until now there were no water pipes or wells. Due to the polluted drinking water many villagers were suffering from gastro-intestinal diseases. Drinkable water had to be laboriously filled into canisters and transported over long distances in the place. Now for the first time in their life these kids can drink fresh and clean water directly from the tap. The joy and enthusiasm of the people was overwhelming.
Our inauguration celebration of the Mörk desalin® plant was a big festive event.
The German Ambassador S.E. Klaus-Dieter Brandes was personally present and made an opening speech in which he praised the commitment of the German middle class and promised MÖRK WATER SOLUTIONS an auspicious development.
Minister Ali Juma Shamhuna (responsible for housing, land, water and energy), picked out with thanks in his speech that the project will provide long-term, thousands of people in the region with drinking water. The minister already ordered to examine other sites, including three neighboring islands.
Martin Brezger, company manager of MÖRK BAU and initiator of the MÖRK WATER SOLUTIONS project thanked in his opening speech in particular the Karume Institute of Science and Technology for their partnership, that enables to realize the project and the vision of an independent water supply.
We are very grateful for the excellent cooperation with our other partners the GIZ, Dow Chemical, the Karlsruhe University of Technology and Economics and Pamoja Zanzibar.
